While studying art at Moeng College, Totang realized his need to explore beyond formal education. After completing his studies, he pursued self-taught artistry, dedicating himself fully to refining his unique style.

Totang furthered his knowledge by earning a Diploma in Paint Application and Technology from the South African Paint Manufacturing Association. He also participated in various workshops at Thapong Visual Arts Centre, which became a creative hub for his growth as an artist.

Drawing inspiration from everyday African life and the struggles of its people, Totang’s work blends abstract and realistic elements, often incorporating found objects like pieces of metal. His rich use of color and textured reliefs makes his creations deeply engaging and meaningful..
Cultural and Ancestral Connection
Totang often reflects on the influence of his ancestral heritage in his artistry. While his grandfather was a leatherworker, Totang believes that there is an ancestral connection to his artistic skills, further deepening his sense of purpose in his work.
Prestigious Collaborations and Collections
Totang has collaborated with Botswana Post to design stamps in 2018, 2020, and 2022. His work has also been featured in prominent collections, including the ABSA Gallery in South Africa and the Liangzhu Museum in China, along with numerous government institutions in Botswana.
Global Recognition and Exchange
Totang’s artistic journey has taken him around the world. Notably, he participated in an international exchange program in China, where he connected with artists from 83 different countries, expanding his creative horizons and cultural knowledge.
Exhibitions and Awards
Totang has showcased his work in many exhibitions, both locally and internationally. Highlights include the “Soul of Africa” exhibit at ABSA Gallery and the “Awakening Africa” exhibition in Lusaka, Zambia. His awards include Best in Painting at the National Arts Festival (2014) and Best Young Artist at Thapong Artist of the Year Award (2015).

Beyond his own creations, Totang has contributed to the broader art community by sharing his expertise. In 2020, he served as an adjudicator for the First National Bank Digital Art Competition, supporting the next generation of artists.
